Hello everyone.

I recently bought a Smart fortwo 451 Petrol 999cc 58 Reg from my local /smart dealer. 1 previous owner at 10600 Miles.
I love the little thing but I have the following problems?

(1)
During the first few days noticed that when in 5th gear and demanding from the engine there was a bubling/rattling noise I think coming from the engine/gearbox?. All the other gears were quiet.
I just ignored it thinking this is the norm. Now a few trips and 400 miles later I can hear the rattling noise starting at second gear and upwards.

(2)
After a about a week of having the car I decided to check the oil and lifted up the cover over the engine and the engine was covered in a fine brown dust. A friend said this might be road dirt but he hasn't actually seen the engine.
The oil level was just below maximum about 5mm, on a cold engine on level ground.

(3)
When I first start the car, which does start with no problems, and I drive off in the semi automatic mode or auto, the car refuses to change up to second, even if I press the up paddle a few times.
I am thinking the engine is too cold and wants to warm up, but I dont want to rev it high when its just been started and so I have to crawl up the road for a bit with traffic queueing up behind. Eventually the car will change and and all is fine.
Can't go that fast anyway due to speed bumps!

I really like the car but I am thinking there maybe some serious faults here with it?
It's still under the smart used car warranty.

I would be interested in what people think about the problems above.

Only on my second tank of fuel, got approx 50.2 Miles per gallon on first tank, which I think is excellent as I didn't drive that gently anyway.
