Post advice on whether the roof is damaged
can anyone take a look at the photos i have posted. i would like your opinion on whether or not the cabrio canvas roof is slightly damaged? when i place my fingers on the bars that run across the roof, this particular side came to a slight dent and it feels like it is damaged.

any ideas would be helpful.

My roof is exactly the same. Intend to investigate further if the rain would stop.

Going to a Smart centre is not recommended unless you have a loaded pocket book. I can't remember how the roof looked like when new. I will have a look underneith soon as I shall remove the roof lining and give it a wash. Perhaps our roofs need some kind of wash or treatment?

found the cause of the problem. u just need to reattach the plastic bars which have come loose. the dent will go away. look under the canvas and use your hands to push it back in. i was thinking whether or not i should use super glue but will only use it if it comes off again.

Many thanks for identifying the cause. Any chance of some educational photos showing how the plastic bars are attached?

i cant get a camera in there as i would have to remove the roof. but when i did it, it was quite easy. move your fingers under the cotton cover from the interior of your car. using your other hand, feel the hard canvas on the top where the detachment is, bend the hard cover and with your other hand in the interior, push it back together, u will then feel that the plastic bars meet up and the dent would go again. its a trial and error sort of thing.

I made a close inspection of my roof. Conclusion: The fabric is both stretched and shrunk causing the small bumps. Pushing the guides onto the roof bars has no effect as the canvas is free at the side.

A solution to the problem is perhaps to tension the canvas in lateral direction where the bumps are, wet the canvas and let it dry whilst still tensioned. Need to fabricate a special tool that can grip the canvas at each side and apply tension accoss the roof. Coming soon!
