Smart Passion 84cv from France to UK + long stop
I have my French bought Smart passion 84cv sleeping in my garage
It has been connected with a battery conditioner for 1.5 years (just about 10000km done from new) and now it is time to wake her up!
Do you know which modifications I have to do to register it in UK (km vs miles for the tachymeter, rear reverse light etc)? Who can do those changes for me?
Do I need a technical certificate and who can give it to me?
After 1.5 years resting, assuming that the battery is ok can I just try to start it and drive it? I mean do I need to be careful for something specifically?
Thanks

Tyres are likely to have quite a bad flat spot where they have been sat on the same bit of tyre. Probably best to change them if you can.
The car really should have a service before being driven any distance.
Depends where in the country you are as to which Indie you would chose to do the conversion work for you.
You don't need to worry about the odometer reading KMs. As long as you have MPH marked on the Speedometer dial it will go through the MOT. The lights will have to be dealt with, the fronts will need at least beam deflectors, best changed to UK spec ones. The rear lights will need a fog light on the offside - you can just add one - then you have two! Depending on how old the car is, you will have to fill in some forms which you can get from the DVLA and send them back with the original French docs and a current UK MOT.

Re: Smart Passion 84cv from France to UK + long stop
Thanks for the answers
It is a 2008 car (Passion)
The Speedometer dial is ONLY in km/h. Is it possible to apply stickers? If yes how can I open it and where can I find the stickers? If I buy UK spec headlights are those just a straight fit (disconnect and re-connect) or this requires a lot of work?
How do I add a fog light on the other side? can it be integrated in the current lights?
I am in Kent, any idea on where can I go for the conversion?

I am sure chequeredflaguk.co.uk could do the work for you if that's what you want. The headlights are just a straight swap (like for like) I.e. Almond shape for almond shape etc.
The rear lights are again just a straight swap for the mechanical parts and a cable swap to change the fog light from the nearside to the offside to reach the new fog light bulb on the other side of the car.
The speedometer can be opened and a new dial put in - anything from original Smart to custom like those from metal monkey.
