Can anyone tell whats happening to my Smart Passion 700CC 54Plate, here's what I am experiancing:

1. Firstly I am experiance a very hard slapping clutch reaction during changes.
2. My car cuts out when I come to a stop it and seems like the idle speed drops to much and or the car is starved or air. Sometime when I am idling and I begin a gental start to drive the vehicle on a slight hill, this too cut the engine.

In both cases to point 2, I just can't start the car straight away and eventually it seem that the battery is dying if I try to many attempts. However, it always starts first time if I leave the car for a longer periods of 15 to 30min. It happened again right at the lights going up a small hill. V.Embarssing with the traffic backing up.

Help!

From what you have put in your post, my first thought is that you have a very badly / faulty clutch!

Have a look on Evilution or FQ101 for clutch actuator and try a manual reset of that. If things improve then you can get the electronic fine tune done.

A draging clutch will produce the symtoms you decribe.

had same sort of problem with my car but not with the clutch. my problem was when my car reached operating temp it would just either die when i am driving or at idle (waiting at lights).Then i had to wait 15 - 20 min like you b 4 i could start again.

took my car to a friends garage who put it on his obd reader and it was the crank(rpm sensor) £62 quid from ...

now she is all happy again.

Thanks guys. I do recall a clutch issue at the dealership. I thought this was resolved. I will checkout the OBD reader as well. Thanks.

Yep! definitly the CRANK SENSOR. This 70mm long tube like, black part with a connector on one end a thread on the other was the cause of my engine cutting out completely during idol to acceleration or from first turn of the key to start the car.

We had to remove the HVAC Fan and push leads aside to get at it without completley taking everything out.

If you need Smart car looked at or servicing I have found and excellent contact, especially if your in the GAYDON area South Warwick. He is a mature SMART-HEAD and prices are good and will do the extra checks for you. Beats a "YTS" Mechanic at the MERC dealership thats for sure.
